A New Jersey state trooper who was shot in the leg while inside his vehicle Thursday night has been released from the hospital, officials say.
It comes on the same day that authorities announced that the man they say was responsible for the shooting was arrested in South Carolina.
New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin says that Jocquise Timmons, 28, was arrested Thursday by United States Marshals. He will be extradited to New Jersey.
The shooting happened around 1 a.m. Thursday in the area of 28th and Ninth streets. Ring doorbell camera footage shows multiple gunshots being fired.
Platkin says that Timmons ambushed two state troopers who were driving unmarked police vehicles. He says that these troopers were investigating an attempted break-in that occurred earlier on Wednesday. Timmons was allegedly a suspect in that break-in.
Platkin says that surveillance video appears to show Timmons pointing a gun at the troopers’ vehicles and opening fire. One trooper was struck in the leg.
The attorney general says that the trooper applied a tourniquet to this leg before he was taken to the hospital. Troopers are all required to carry tourniquets among their gear.
The trooper, whose name was not released, is expected to be OK.
Timmons faces attempted murder, aggravated assault and weapons charges.
