A state trooper is under investigation after a crash that may have involved alcohol took place Thursday.
Michelle Bruce and her husband, Donald, claim an unmarked car that crashed into their SUV was driven by a state trooper. The force of the crash caused the trooper?s airbag to deploy and sent the couple?s vehicle crashing into a fence.
The couple says the officer was having a difficult time talking and walking, but claim state police at the accident scene weren?t treating him like a possible drunken driving suspect. Michelle Bruce also says a field sobriety test was never administered to the trooper, even though she asked for one.
State police identified the officer as Detective Thomas De Meo. De Meo, 36, has been with the force for nine years. A public information officer says no Breathalyzer test was administered to De Meo.
Internal affairs is looking into the couple?s allegation that De Meo had been drinking. They are also checking out the actions of troopers on the scene.
Meanwhile, De Meo has been assigned to desk duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
