In response to rising gas prices, Rep. Scott Garrett proposed a plan Wednesday that would increase off shore drilling, boost funds to develop alternate fuels and produce more fuel in the United States.
Garrett says that under his proposed plan, refining oil on American soil will help to produce one million barrels a day for the next 30 years.
He encouraged New Jersey residents to demand that their local lawmakers make fuel issues a top priority.
