State AG: New Jersey sees rise in hate crimes since start of Israel-Hamas war

Data shows that 133 Jewish people were targeted, more than three times the monthly average of 42. Incidents targeting Islam or Muslims were up 48% last month.

The New Jersey Office of the Attorney General says that New Jersey has seen a spike in hate crime incidents since the start of the Israel-Hamas war. The office says there were 380 bias incidents reported in the state during October.
Data shows that 133 Jewish people were targeted, more than three times the monthly average of 42. Incidents targeting Islam or Muslims were up 48% last month.
The surge brings the number of bias incidents in New Jersey so far this year to 2,175 through October, just three shy of last year's total.
