The New Jersey Attorney General's Office announced on Monday that it has identified the woman who was fatally shot by police in Fort Lee last month.

Police have identified the victim as 26-year-old Victoria G. Lee.

Police were called to The Pinnacle apartment complex on Main Street around 1:25 a.m., back on July 28, according to investigators.

A man told a 911 operator that his sister was having a mental health crisis, adding she was holding a knife.

When police arrived, they spoke with the male caller in the hallway and then noticed two women inside the apartment who told the officers not to come in and shut the door.

Officers knocked and eventually forced their way inside. As Lee approached, one officer fired a single shot, striking her in the chest.

Lee was transported to Englewood Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Investigators added a knife was recovered at the scene.
