It was a close battle, but Assemblyman Brian Stack defeated Assemblyman Silverio ?Sal? Vega for the 33rd District Senate nomination in the Democratic primary Tuesday.
Both Stack and Vegas are in the Assembly and both are mayors. They unleashed their political might to try and win the seat being vacated by Sen. Bernie Kenny.
Stack still has to win the general election. However, Union City is a Democratic stronghold, so Stack expects an easy win in November.
Meanwhile, Sen. Ronald Rice narrowly defeated Bilal Beasley for the Democratic nomination in the 28th Senate District. Rice received approximately 6,300 votes, about 52 percent of the electorate.
