A squall Wednesday afternoon brought quick bursts of snow to parts of northern New Jersey.
Snow squalls are like mini blizzards, with heavy snow and strong winds in a very short amount of time.

They can be very dangerous, particularly for drivers who may be on the road when the squalls hit. Snow squalls come with the risk of whiteout conditions and zero visibility.
The squalls hit while parts of the Garden State were still dealing with damage caused by an ice storm Tuesday night. That storm caused trees and power lines to fall, knocking out power to thousands around the state.
