Son of slain Newark imam, 2 others arrested on unrelated gun charges

The son of slain Newark Imam Hassan Sharif was arrested and charged with gun violations.
Essex County prosecutors say Abdush Sharif, 36, was arrested last Friday at a Newark residence along with two other men. They say all three men were charged with fourth-degree violation of regulatory provisions relating to firearms.
Sharif and Kevin Rogers, 46, are being held in the Essex County Correctional Facility pending detention hearings. Dashawn Kinchen, 49, was released on a summons.
Police have not said if this arrest is in connection to the imam's homicide investigation. But they do say that investigation is active and ongoing.
