A woman from Raritan Township is accused of attempted murder after police say she purposely set fire to a multifamily home on River Road last week - putting residents at risk.
Officials say Laura Duran, 47, intentionally started a fire Wednesday where she lives on the second floor, putting her downstairs neighbor's lives at risk. The home sustained significant structural damage.
"Aggravated arson is more than a crime against property — it is a crime against the person and, in this case, a personal invasion that endangered the lives, safety, and dignity of the victims in their own home,” Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée Robeson said in a statement.
Duran was arrested Friday and faces multiple charges, including arson and first-degree attempted murder. She is being held at the Warren County Correctional Center pending her first court appearance on Sept. 30.
