Power was restored to residents in Albertson around 10 this morning after about 34 hours in the dark.

Yesterday's storm knocked out the utility around midnight Monday.

Neighbors said strong storms have historically taken a toll on power on these blocks, but many said their frustration is the lack of communication.

"They didn't really say how long the outage was going to be, so they just kept on sending an extra four hours, an extra four hours, but I think what they should've done originally is just have said it was a major issue and it's going to be an extended outage," Albertson resident Burt Kobylivker said.

In total, 40,000 people lost power since Saturday's storms.

Everyone who went down over the weekend has been restored and any active outages occurred yesterday, according to PSEG Long Island.

Last night, PSEG Long Island officials said crews responded to 400 downed trees and are still working 16-hour shifts to restore power to customers affected by the most recent storm.

"Sometimes our crews come across more difficult or challenging locations where additional trees are found that caused or contributed to longer restoration times," PSEG Senior Director of Emergency Services Larry Torres said.

Several hundred outages still linger in other parts of both Nassau and Suffolk counties.
