A snowstorm is developing for early next week and some of us will need to shovel in New Jersey. Is it enough to impact your plans?
Two rounds of snow are in the forecast for New Jersey and both favor south and central parts of our state. Today’s snow is only nuisance bursts for the evening commute. Up to 1 inch of snow is possible in larger bursts so have the snow brush handy!
For today's snow showers, the National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory from 3 to 10 p.m. today for Camden, Gloucester, Atlantic, Salem, Cumberland, and Cape May counties. Snow showers will reduce visibility and cause slippery travel as far north as Hunterdon, Somerset, and Middlesex counties. Snow flurries are possible north of here.
We are tracking a large snowstorm early next week, and it will make its closest approach to New Jersey on Monday. More details will unfold in the next 24 hours.
What we know about Monday:
  • A snowstorm WILL happen!
  • South Jersey will likely need to shovel.
  • Confidence is growing that we see some snow in Central or North Jersey.
  • Little to no snow is still possible north of the Atlantic City Expressway.
What we don’t know:
  • Exact storm timing on Monday
  • Specific snow totals
  • Impacts for north and central New Jersey where confidence is lower that snow will arrive.
The model guidance this morning consistently shows impactful snow for South Jersey and also consistently show very little snow in north Jersey. Here's a comparison of the GFS & EURO. The models have been consistent with snow in South Jersey but are going back and forth on the risk for neighborhoods north of the AC expressway. Keep in mind this just model guidance and shifts will occur as the storm gets closer.
Now is a great time to check your inventory on salt and stock your car with winter essentials. Check back for updates later tonight and this weekend for the latest information.
