A single-engine airplane made an emergency landing on a strip of the Garden State Parkway in Wall Township Friday.
The aircraft landed in the northbound lanes of the parkway at about 1:30 p.m. Joe Rubino and John Hannon, the two pilots, were not injured in the landing.
?The first thing that I said is ?This isn?t happening,? and the second thing I said is ?I?m not gonna die today?,? says Hannon.
Hannon, an aerial photographer, handed the controls over to Rubino after the Cessna 152 began to lose power. Rubino is a flight instructor.
The pair was three miles from where they planned to land at Monmouth Executive Airport in Wall. They had been up in the air taking pictures for Hannon?s Long Branch-based business.
The plane?s wing did clip a guardrail while landing, but it did not hit any cars. After successfully landing, the two men pushed the plane onto the grass to prevent any cars from crashing into it.
No one on the ground was injured.
