Small plane crashes into trees in Sussex County, injuring pilot

New Jersey State Police say the aircraft had a fuel issue prior to the incident.

The pilot of a small plane was hospitalized after the aircraft crashed into a tree line in Sussex Borough. The crash occurred Tuesday at 7:05 p.m., according to New Jersey State Police.
Based on a preliminary investigation, police say the Bellanca Citabria aircraft was having a fuel issue before it went down in a bank of trees. Officials from the FAA say only the pilot was on board the plane at the time of the crash.
According to New Jersey State Police, the pilot sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The name and age of the pilot have not yet been released.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are continuing to investigate the incident.
