The search for a small plane that reportedly crashed off the Jersey Shore has been called off.

Ocean County Sheriff Michael Mastronardy tells News 12 New Jersey that the reports appear to be unfounded.

Officials say that a single 911 call came in to dispatch Thursday morning reporting the crash off the coast of Long Beach Island.

Emergency crews rushed out to the scene, but no evidence of a crash was found.

The search was called off by Thursday afternoon.
