Severe thunderstorm watch, warnings issued for parts of NJ; storms could bring gusty winds, hail

Severe thunderstorm watch, warnings issued for parts of NJ; storms could bring gusty winds, hail
News 12 meteorologists are tracking storms that are packing damaging winds and downpours across the Garden State this Sunday.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for most of northern New Jersey through 8 p.m. Sunday.
Severe thunderstorm warnings have also been issued for parts of the state throughout the afternoon and evening as storms moved through the area.  Warnings were in effect for parts of Hudson, Passaic, Bergen and Essex counties through 7:45 p.m.
Some storm cells began popping up across the state this afternoon. They were packing the chance for damaging, gusty winds, downpours, small hail and lightning.

Videos shared on social media showed torrential rain and apparent hail in parts of the state today.
 
Conditions were expected to dry out after sunset, with clear skies overnight.
