Severe storms caused widespread disruptions to NJ Transit rail service Friday, suspending service on several lines and delaying others as crews worked to assess damage and restore operations.

NJ Transit said service remained suspended on the Morris & Essex, Gladstone Branch, Raritan Valley and North Jersey Coast lines because of storm damage to rail infrastructure late Friday evening. Crews were deployed to inspect and repair the damage.

Service resumed on the Main, Bergen County, Port Jervis and Pascack Valley lines, as well as service to Hoboken, though residual delays remained Friday, according to NJ Transit.

The River Line was also suspended in both directions between the Roebling and Cass Street stations because of weather-related downed trees on the tracks near Roebling Station. Substitute bus service was operating Friday night.

Meanwhile, Northeast Corridor Line trains are experiencing delays of up to one hour in both directions because of a disabled train near Metuchen. NJ Transit said eastbound passengers at New Brunswick, Edison and Metuchen must board and exit trains at track level using stairs.

Rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored on NJ Transit and private carrier buses, as well as PATH service at Newark Penn Station, Hoboken Terminal and 33rd Street in New York. NJ Transit is advising customers to check its website for alternate travel options and the latest service updates.
