Strong storms slammed the Jersey Shore over the weekend, leaving behind loads of damage and leaving some residents in the dark.

Sunday’s driving rain flooded roads in Brielle and Manasquan, which left one car stranded.

High wind speeds uprooted trees on Saturday, including one that smashed a car in Point Pleasant.

Diners 20 miles north in Sea Bright were interrupted by crashing plates and silverware at Tommy’s Tavern.

“I’ve never felt wind like a freight train,” said Point Pleasant native Mike Bavaro.

He said the wind sent his umbrella, his grill - and even himself - airborne.

“I ran down to get an umbrella and crank it down. The aluminum pole broke off, and it took me like Mary Poppins in the air. I was a good 10 feet off the ground, and it dragged me onto the beach,” he added.

Thousands of residents were also without power over the weekend.
