There are growing calls for Sen. Bob Menendez to step down from his position after the senator was convicted on Tuesday of bribery.
Sen. Cory Booker – Menendez’s partner in the United States Senate – says that if Menendez rejects those calls, he will personally head up a move to expel the senior senator from the Senate.
Booker told CNN that this situation has shaken New Jersey to its core.

“Should he not do the right thing? I've been talking to [Senate Majority Leader] Chuck Schumer and other colleagues. I know and I'm confident that we will work for an expulsion. I don't want to talk about the details of that because again, I think these coming days before we're back in session on Monday or Tuesday he should use this time to come before the American people and do the right thing,” Booker said.
Menendez has denied any wrongdoing and is expected to file an appeal. In an interview with WCBS, he said that he has not spoken to anyone about resigning.
A sentencing hearing is scheduled for Oct. 29.
