Sen. Booker praises Respect for Marriage Act recently signed by President Biden
Democratic Sen. Cory Booker is praising the new Respect for Marriage Act that President Joe Biden recently signed.
The bill enshrines the right to marry regardless of sexual orientation and race. Booker was standing just a few feet away from the president when he signed the bill.
“It was this feeling of joy and exultation. There are certain fundamental things our country should stand for. And this idea that you are free to love who you choose, free to marry who you choose, to me is something that we should protect,” Booker said.
Twelve Republican senators and 39 Republican representatives joined with Democrats in support of the law.
New Jersey’s two Republican representatives, Reps. Chris Smith and Jeff Van Drew, voted against the measure.
