Security has been beefed up at Ridgewood's Benjamin Franklin Middle School after a former student's death threats and subsequent arrest
Police say Joseph Piepul, 20, showed up at the school and threatened to kill students last week. Authorities say Piepul was making bizarre statements during the incident, and he was taken to a psychiatric hospital after his arrest.
School resource officer Chris McDowell says there was immediate concern because Piepul showed up early in the morning, while doors were still opened for students to arrive.
A security guard has now been hired to guard the school's entrance. According to administrators, the guard will be in plain clothes.
Parents support the addition of the guard.
Nobody was hurt in last week's incident.
