Officials say a security scare shut down one of Newark Liberty International Airport's terminals today, causing hours of long lines and delays for thousands of travelers.
The breach in security occurred at around 8:45 a.m. inside Terminal C. The breach caused officials to shut down all security screening checkpoints, leaving hundreds of passengers waiting in line.
Officials say they conducted an intense search that determined an improperly screened passenger had departed on a flight to Cleveland.
An estimated 100 flights were canceled and dozens were delayed due to the breach. It is still unclear how the passenger in question was improperly screened or how Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials at the terminal learned of the breach.
Officials say they were able to identify the passenger in question. There is no word on whether she even knew she breached security and caused a major disruption.
