The Seaside Heights boardwalk is already packed this Memorial Day as visitors head out to mark the unofficial start of summer at the beach.
Crews continue to work on a section of boardwalk that connects Seaside Heights to Seaside Park. Back in September, a massive blaze destroyed five blocks of the boardwalk and some 50 businesses that were still recovering after Sandy.
Seaside Heights Mayor Bill Akers told News 12 that they hoped the boardwalk would be entirely open by this weekend. However, they want to get it done right and aim to have it reopened for July 4 weekend.
According to Akers, yesterday was a fantastic start to the Memorial Day weekend with a strong attendance. With today's weather forecast calling for sunshine and warm temperatures, he hopes to see that trend continue.
