Some tend to think of Memorial Day weekend as the unofficial start to the summer, filled with barbecues and parties.
However, the men and women of the Romaine Sinniger VFW reminded Americans over the weekend what the holiday is about.
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, last year's parade was canceled and this year's parade was rained on, but that didn't stop the activities planned this weekend.
VFW Post Commander Lou Verile said his goal in hosting remembrance activities during Memorial Day weekend is simple: To honor the men and women who served in the armed forces, especially those men and women who gave their lives.
"The real meaning of Memorial Day is to remember the veterans and people who lost their lives fighting for our country," Verile said.
The commemorations will continue with a wreath laying at Town Hall Monday.
