The Rutgers women?s basketball team responded to radio host Don Imus? comments during a news conference Tuesday.
Imus made the racially-charged comments on his radio show last Wednesday. He has since come under fire from critics and members of the black community who think he should be fired. CBS radio and MSNBC announced Monday that Imus? radio show and television simulcast will be suspended for two weeks.
Coach C. Vivian Stringer said the comments were ?deplorable, despicable and unconscionable.? She said the women on the team are bright, young and distinguished. She urged people to look deeper at the comments and their implication for women and minorities.
Rutgers forward Essence Carson announced at the conference that the team will meet with Imus at an undisclosed location. The team fielded questions from reporters regarding the meeting with Imus and his comments. The team members did not say they thought Imus should be fired.
