Rutgers athletic director Julie Hermann says that the football program exceeded expectations in its first Big 10 season. The Scarlet Knights finished with an overall record of 8-5. For Hermann, head coach Kyle Flood is a big reason for the success.

"He is the guy you want to hand your son to," Hermann said. 

In an exclusive interview with News 12 New Jersey, Hermann says the football program is starting to turn a profit thanks largely to a marketing partnership with IMG College. Rutgers athletics has been criticized in recent years for having one of the nation's largest subsidies. Hermann says football won't use public money. 

Flood is getting ready for the Scarlet Knights' first spring practice, which is set for Monday.

"I've never felt anything but confidence coming from Julie, coming from our athletic department," Flood said.

Hermann says that there's been a little success in the Big 10, but she would like to see a lot.
