A vehicle fire along the northbound side of Route 287 has caused a shutdown at Exit 1 and 2, the Edison township advises.
The exits are closed in both directions due to an eight thousand gallon fuel tanker fully engulfed in flames, said mayor of Edison Sam Joshi.
The vehicle fire occurred at Exit 2A, according to the advisory.
The township advises drivers to plan on taking an alternate travel route.
Route 27 is also shut down between Vineyard Road and Bridge Street in Metuchen due to the fire.
Joshi stated that four injuries were reported and over 150 firefighters are on the scene.
Traffic is currently being diverted to Route 1.
The southbound side of the Route 287 has reopened with exit 1 and Route 27 still shut down.
