? Officials say a woman is in critical condition after an explosion and roof collapse took place Thursday at a townhouse complex on Oriental Street in Newark.
The explosion happened inside an abandoned home at 7:30 a.m. According to fire officials, the victim was a squatter and living in the second story bedroom. Officials believe the victim lit a fire, but did not realize that the previous occupants left the gas valve on.
Two of the townhouse units have been affected by the collapse. The victim suffered serious burns and was taken to St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.
