Robin Williams seized the year on Google. 

The search engine says the actor and comedian was the most searched name in 2014 following his death in August. 

Also making the list of the fastest growing search requests for last year are notable events such as the World Cup and the Ebola epidemic. The disappearance of the Malaysia airlines jet and smartphone game "Flappy Bird" rounded out the top five. 

Williams, Ebola and the World Cup, along with the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, also ranked among the most-discussed subjects on Facebook this year.
