Bodega workers are fearing for their safety after a violent armed robbery in Bedford Park that was caught on surveillance video.
News 12 spoke exclusively with a worker who said he has not returned to work since the attack.
Police said the robbery happened around 3 a.m. April 22 at a bodega on Villa Avenue. Video shows two suspects wearing black and purple hoodies entering the store with a gun.
Sources said the suspects confronted two brothers working inside, ages 27 and 22. One suspect pushed the younger brother and grabbed him by the neck, according to police, while the older brother — who had been stocking drinks in a refrigerator — was struck in the head with the gun.
“I knew not to overreact, I kept my calm… but it’s something that you shouldn’t have to deal with when you have a family,” the employee told News 12. He asked not to be identified out of fear for his safety.
Police said the suspects fled with about $250 in cash. No arrests have been made.
According to NYPD data, robberies in the 52nd Precinct have increased nearly 9% so far this year.
The United Bodegas of America is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to an arrest.
The store’s manager said the employee has not returned to work since the incident, and workers remain on edge while the suspects are still at large.
