Alyssa Nitchun says visitors find a little bit of everything through the museum's over 25,000 works of art.
"Paintings, drawings, performances, video work, sound," says Nitchun. "The Leslie Lohman Museum of Art is the only LGBTQ+ contemporary art museum in the world."
The expansive museum is filled with eye-popping color and intrigue. Nitchun says it's all about embracing the power of art to inspire and understand queer experience.
She says it's important to have a space to exhibit, support and preserve this artwork, that she says will be impactful no matter who you are.
"Regardless of how you identify, you will find yourself in Leslie Lohman, and that's also the power of art," Nitchun says.
Nitchun adds that it's important to have the museum as a place for community programming at a time when queer people are still targeted.
The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday and is free to all visitors.
