A man from Ridgefield is accused of strangling a child before trying to sexually assault the child.
According to prosecutors, the Fairview Police Department contacted the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit on Monday regarding a child under the age of 13 who was allegedly attacked in Fairview.
Authorities say an investigation revealed Julio Amaro-Vasquez, 33, strangled the child to the point of unconsciousness and attempted to sexually assault the child.
Amaro-Vasquez was arrested in Fairview and is charged with first-degree attempted murder, attempted sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He is being held in Bergen County Jail pending a first court appearance in Hackensack.
