Howard Rubin and his personal assistant Jennifer Powers have been charged with sex trafficking and transporting women.

Rubin was arrested Friday morning in Fairfield, Connecticut and will be arraigned in Brooklyn federal court.

"For many years, Howard Rubin and Jennifer Powers allegedly spent at least $1 million to finance the commercial sexual torture of multiple women via a national trafficking network. The FBI will continue to apprehend any trafficker who sexually abuses others for twisted gratification," said FBI Assistant Director in Charge Raia.

Rubin and Powers allegedly recruited women to engage in commercial sex acts with Rubin.

During these instances, Rubin is said to have brutalized the women's bodies, which caused them to fear for their safety.

If found guilty for sex trafficking, the defendants would each face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment and a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years.

Rubin's $25 million bond was rejected by Magistrate Judge Kuo, and she ordered him detained.

Rubin has been arraigned and pleaded not guilty.
