As officials continue to survey the damage caused by Hurricane Matthew in the south, some four-legged victims of the storm have been relocated to New Jersey.
St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center in Madison is helping several displaced cats and dogs from flood-ravaged North Carolina find loving homes.
St. Hubert's says 89 cats and dogs were sent from North Carolina to shelters all around the northeast.
A handful of those animals will be held at St. Hubert's, which often serves as a hub for large transports of dogs and cats.
St. Hubert's transport program links up with shelters from across the country to help make large-scale rescues and adoptions easier to manage and easier to afford.
Workers at St. Hubert's say bringing the dogs and cats to New Jersey not only allows for adoption, but also frees up shelters in North Carolina for pets who have been temporarily separated from their owners.
