Volunteers at a North Jersey ambulance squad say they are back up and running after a fire destroyed three ambulances and ruined nearly all of their medical supplies June 15.
Members of the Sparta Volunteer Ambulance Squad say a local emergency vehicle dealer lent them an ambulance and neighboring ambulance squads donated tens of thousands of dollars worth of medical supplies and burn kits to ready them for emergencies. In addition, the squad is now operating out of a vacant building until their old headquarters is rebuilt.
"As far as crews and equipment, we're as good as we were before the fire, if not even better, because of all the enthusiasm that's been cranked up," Mary Hookway, a Sparta volunteer, says.
