It is primary election night, a preamble for November, and tonight the showdown for governor is set. Thanks for joining us. I'm Kurt Siegler and I'm Roxanne Evans. So a look at how the voting went down tonight. Of course, US Representative. Sheryl has won the Democratic nomination for New Jersey governor roughly 1 hour after the polls closed. Cheryl pulled ahead, beating out 5 other candidates and locking down the nomination. Here are the results, and on the Republican side, victory for Jack Chittarelli tonight easily outdistancing Bill Spadia. The endorsement of President Trump loomed large in this race. All these results, by the way, we will be scrolling on our infoar through the night. But Chittarelli addressed his supporters tonight in Holmdelle. You saw that live here on News 12. Well, our Chris Keating is there with more on what the GOP nominee had to say, Chris. as he took the podium here and home to declare victory, the first thing he said to his supporters was, We are not done. Jack Chiarelli then went on to say that he won all 21 counties during this Republican primary, and from there he went on to lay out some of the goals he wants to work on if and when he wins this general election. For one, he says he wants to make New Jersey safer and more affordable. He wants to lower income taxes, lower corporate taxes, and the practice. throughout our suburbs and of course it took time to rail against Democrats incumbent Murphy, who is still in position as governor, as well as the Democrat who faced in November Mikey Sherrill. Here's a sample of what had to say here at Holm. 14 months ago we kicked off this campaign with one goal in mind fixing and saving our great state. Tonight we took the next step in achieving our mission with a clear and convincing primary victory tonight because of you, we won all 21 New Jersey counties. Chiarelli came into this race as the favorite, and one of the biggest reasons for that was an endorsement from the White House. President Trump said recently that Jack was all in on MAGA, of course. Chiarelli has been here before. He lost the race in 2017, not making out of the primary, and then in 2021 he lost to Governor Phil Murphy even though he made a very good showing, losing by just 3% points. But here he is again tonight making it back to the primary, and it seems as though he never actually stopped working following that loss in 2021. But now he has another chance again at that top job as governor of New Jersey come November. Kirk. All right, Chris, thank you. And now to the Democrats. We head to Morristown, where Congresswoman Mikey Sherrill declared victory earlier tonight. Our Naomi Hana is there and Naomi, we're already hearing her talking points for the campaign against Jack Chittarelli this fall. Absolutely, and the room here is still a buzz, Kurt. I mean folks are hanging around. They're excited. They were listening to that speech, hanging on to her every word as she bigged up in a sense, New Jersey, right, took jabs at Jacksonneelli, uh, even before she hit the stage tweeting on X saying thank you to New Jersey now. Woman Mikey Sherrill has done it right. She was the favorite to win the Democratic Party nomination and now it's done and of course next up for her, the gubernatorial race in November. Now not only was the congresswoman the favorite to win the nomination, she also got the most county party endorsements which helped seal her fate. Take a listen to some of what she said earlier this evening. We are in an American crisis, but not in a war for independence, in a fight for our future, the fight for justice, for liberty, for opportunity, and for prosperity. And once again it is New Jersey's responsibility to lead this great nation. Nice to meet you. And like I mentioned before, before hitting the stage, she posted to X and she said thank you to New Jersey. She also said I'm thrilled to officially be your Democratic nominee for governor and I'm ready for the challenge. Let's do it. Those were her words right there. On X we also heard from her earlier this evening. The folks here still in a celebratory mode. She's left the building for now. We don't see her out here, but listen, the folks out here are still celebrating for now in Morristown, Naomi in New, New Jersey. I'll set it back inside the studio.

Ciattarelli had the endorsement from President Donald Trump, while Sherrill has been a vocal critic of President Trump.
