Republican congressional candidate Jay Webber received a threatening letter.
Webber posted a picture of the letter, along with a torn up Webber campaign sign, on his Twitter page Wednesday.
The letter criticized Webber’s politics and threatened his children.
“You BETTER hope that you don’t win! Or else,” the letter stated. “How many kids do you have… 7? Unlucky 7…Time to get out of politics!”
“Criticizing a candidate on the issues is part of politics. Threatening my children is not,” Webber posted on Twitter.
Democratic candidate Mikie Sherrill released a statement condemning the letter.
“I condemn this in the strongest terms and hope law enforcement determines who was behind this and holds them accountable,” Sherrill said in a statement.
Webber and Sherrill are running to represent New Jersey’s 11th District. The winner of the race will replace retiring Republican Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen, who served 12 terms in office.
