The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has started to put up Christmas decorations outside the Holland Tunnel.
This year a circular wreath was placed on the “O” in “Holland” and a triangular Christmas tree was placed on the “A” in “Holland.”
This comes after an online petition was launched last year by people who did not like the original placement of the wreaths. At the time, three wreaths were placed outside the tunnel and equally spaced apart. The creators of the petition did not like that the triangular Christmas tree was not placed over the “A.”
Port Authority officials decided to have some fun with the debate and created a poll for the public to take regarding the placement of the decorations. More than 21,000 people voted in the poll and voted to have the third wreath removed and have the decorations repositioned over the “O” and “A.”
Officials also say that they are working with local Jewish congregations to stage menorah lights outside the tunnel as well.
