Democratic Rep. Frank Pallone says he wants to get to the bottom of the recent marine mammal deaths off the Jersey Shore.
Pallone and other leaders sent a letter to the chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality. They want more to be done to address vessel strikes.
"The group requested info from NOAA on what the agency is doing to enforce vessel speed, legal entanglements, and reduce microplastic pollution that marine mammals swallow when feeding,” Pallone stated.
More than 20 whales and dolphins have washed up along the coast in the past months. Some groups have blamed wind power projects for the deaths, but officials have said that there is no evidence that this is the case.
