The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life helped raise money Saturday at Middletown High School North.
One of the participants was Chris Bevacqua, who lost her father to lung cancer three years ago. Since then, Chris and her family have shown up for the event wearing shirts they made in his honor.
“We put the No. 72 on the back because it was his age when he passed, which we all believe was way too young," she told News 12.
Hundreds of families and supporters spent their Saturday taking turns walking around the field at the high school – each lap representing a cancer survivor, someone who was lost to cancer or the fight for a cure.
Organizers hoped to raise between $75,000 and $80,000.
