The Red Mill Museum Village is marking America's 250th anniversary by offering a series of hands-on workshops that teach traditional crafts and heritage skills.
The Clinton museum said the programs are designed to give participants a firsthand look at the craftsmanship and ingenuity that helped shape the nation while supporting the museum's educational and preservation efforts.
The summer lineup begins with Mill to Mill Textile Fellowship Day on July 11, a free event presented in partnership with the Hunterdon Art Museum. The event will feature demonstrations, hands-on activities and displays highlighting traditional and contemporary fiber arts, including spinning, weaving, knitting, embroidery and crochet.
Additional workshops include a two-day spinning wheel course on July 18 and 25, where participants will learn to turn wool into yarn using traditional spinning wheels.
Also on July 18, wood carver Vincent Pettit will lead a greenwood spoon carving workshop, teaching participants how to craft a functional wooden spoon using traditional hand tools.
The museum will also host a vintage textile collage workshop led by textile artist Susan Bleignier, where participants will create hand-stitched artwork using antique and vintage fabrics while learning basic embroidery and textile art techniques.
The museum said advance registration is required for workshops, and space is limited. Proceeds from the programs help support the nonprofit's historic site, educational programming and preservation efforts.
