Thousands of gallons of raw sewage poured into Red Bank storm drains after a pipe broke.

A drilling contractor caused a 30-inch break in the town’s sanitary collection system on Thursday, causing the sewage to put into the surrounding catch basins.

Officials say that the pipe was fixed and all leaks were stopped. The area has since been paved.

The spill did not cause any recreational or shellfish advisories, according to the Department of Environmental Protection. But Red Bank officials say that residents should refrain rom consuming any activities in the Navesink River or consuming any shellfish or other fish in the area of the Route 35 bridge until additional water monitoring is done.

Red Bank officials say DEP will conduct testing on Monday.

It was not clear who was responsible for breaking the pipe.
