The state Motor Vehicle Commission will launch an emergency Real ID issuance program Thursday for those needing the card for urgent domestic flights, according to officials.

The service, aimed at a limited number of applicants before the May 7 deadline, requires scheduling an appointment at the Trenton commission.

Applicants must submit documents proving their personal situation and may pay an $80 fee to expedite delivery before travel.

Those with valid U.S. passports are ineligible.

Alternatives like passport cards are available.
