Doctors and health officials in New Jersey have identified at least 12 children in state hospitals who have been treated for a syndrome resembling Kawasaki disease, an inflammation of the blood vessels.
New York authorities announced Wednesday 64 children in the state were potentially affected. Most had evidence of COVID-19 infections, but the link to coronavirus hasn't been proven.

A few other U.S. cases have been reported, along with cases in Europe. Symptoms may include fever, abdominal pain and rashes. Most patients have recovered, while some remain hospitalized.
Some New York children developed heart inflammation requiring intensive care. The condition is similar to Kawasaki disease, a rare illness involving inflamed arteries.
