Authorities are searching for suspects involved in a Chestnut Ridge robbery that led police on a chase into New Jersey.
Ramapo officials say they received a tip of suspicious vehicles in the parking lot of an auto shop on Red Schoolhouse Road around midnight.
When officers arrived, two Audis believed to be stolen from New Jersey sped away. Another suspect broke into a white BMW as they were getting away.
"The suspects got into the vehicle, stole it. They drove it into a security fence. After leaving the parking lot, they were observed going northbound on Red Schoolhouse Road at which time a responding unit was going towards them, head-to-head, and the BMW struck our police vehicle,” Detective Sgt. Michael Higgins, of the Ramapo Police Department.
Police believe about five men are involved in the robbery.
Ramapo police say they stopped the chase to ensure safety due to the aggressive driving and high speeds.
If the suspects are caught, they will be charged with criminal trespassing and grand larceny.
