Investigators are seeking assistance from the public in order to identify a suspect in a homicide that took place in Elizabeth last month, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park announced Wednesday.
The Prosecutor’s Office released a video clip depicting the suspect that was pulled from surveillance footage recorded at a nearby convenience store shortly after the homicide took place.
Park said the person seen in the video is wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of 28-year-old Elizabeth resident Michael Eargle. Elizabeth Police Department patrol units responding to a report of shots fired on the 1800 block of Lafayette Street found Eargle shortly after 4:30 p.m. on April 11, Park said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The shooting remains under active joint investigation by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force, Elizabeth Police Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit and Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit. The person depicted in the video was wearing a distinctive piece of clothing: a vintage, Starter brand University of North Carolina hockey jersey.
Anyone with information about the identity of the person in the video or the fatal shooting is asked to contact Homicide Task Force Sgt. Jose Vendas at 908-358-3048 or Detective Rudolfo Correia at 908-418-5800.
