Prosecutor's office: Teen stabbed during fight in New Milford HS parking lot

Officials say that a large fight broke out in the school parking lot around 3:15 p.m. Monday.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office is investigating a stabbing that happened around dismissal in the parking lot of New Milford High School involving students from the school and minors from outside the district.
It’s still unclear what led to the fight that left one teen stabbed in the chest, but according to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, the New Milford Police Department responded to a large fight in the school’s parking lot on River Road.

When officers got to the scene, they found the victim, however, the suspect or suspects involved had already fled.
Superintendent Peter Galasso wrote a letter to parents and guardians that included the following: "Preliminary information indicates this was an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to any of our schools. The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain our highest priority."
The superintendent added in the letter that two individuals were in custody.
The victim who was stabbed was taken to a hospital, where they are said to be in critical but stable condition.
