The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office has announced the arrest of an off-duty Saddle Brook police officer, accused of leading police on a chase.
The incident happened on Oct. 3 around 2:35 a.m. when a Ridgefield police officer attempted to stop a speeding BMW.
According to prosecutors, Andres Morales, 29, refused to pull over, drove off, and led Ridgefield police and other officers on a high-speed chase, subsequently driving on state routes 46 and 80. The pursuit was later terminated due to the excessive speed and danger to the pursuing officer and the general public.
He's scheduled for a first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack on Nov. 4 at 8:30 a.m. He’s since been suspended from his position in the police department and as a result of the investigation, charged with eluding police.
