Prosecutor: Teen who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting senior sentenced to 12 years
A teenager who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a senior citizen last year has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office says that Jermaine Marshall, 17, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and burglary for the Oct. 31, 2022 crime.
Officials say that Marshall, who was 16 years old at the time, broke into an apartment on Swider Drive in Parlin and sexually assaulted a 68-year-old woman. They say the incident happened a little after midnight.
Police say Marshall was taken into custody later that day and initially charged with juvenile delinquency due to his age.
A judge ruled that Marshall should be tried as an adult. He pleaded guilty on Jan. 13.
In addition to his sentence, Marshall will be on parole supervision for life and must register under Megan’s Law.
