The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office has announced a man from Carteret has been arrested and charged with the murder of his grandmother.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Shawn Gonzalez, 39, is accused of killing 89-year-old Dolores Babij back in August.

Prosecutors say an investigation determined Babij was assaulted and killed by Gonzalez earlier that morning at her residence. Responding police officers found Babij deceased and seated in a chair in her home.

Murder charges were filed this week. Gonzalez is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center, where he is pending a Detention Hearing in Superior Court.
