The investigation into the death of a woman in Manchester Township last month led to the discovery of a second victim and charges being filed against four people, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities say this all began while looking into the death of 25-year-old Gabriella Caroleo that happened at a home in Manchester Township on June 27. The investigation led to 35-year-old Maxwell Johnston, who was accused in the deadly shooting.

A warrant was issued on July 3 for Johnston’s arrest. Two days later, on July 5, Johnston took his own life following a seven-hour standoff with police inside a home on Ravenwood Drive in Toms River.

Officials say that during that standoff there were four other people inside the home with Johnston. They were identified as Danielle Bolstad, Jarred Palumbo, Jared Krysiak and Elizabeth Mascarelli. Officials say that Bolstad, Palumbo and Krysiak left the home during the standoff, but Mascarelli remained inside with Johnston.

Officials alleged that Mascarelli allowed Johnston to stay in the home for several days, despite knowing that he was wanted for the murder. She was charged with harboring a fugitive from justice.

While police were searching the Ravenwood home after the standoff, they found evidence of another homicide, leading them to search a property on Toms River Road in Jackson Township. Officials say they discovered the remains of 56-year-old Kerry Rollason. The body was dismembered and parts were found inside black bags. Officials say that Rollason owned the home on Ravenwood Drive in Toms River.

Prosecutors say that Johnston killed Rollason on July 3 inside the Ravenwood Drive home. They say Mascarelli, Bolstad and Krysiak assisted in dismembering the body and disposing of it, with help from Palumbo.

All four are facing several charges.

Officials say that Krysiak remains on the loose and is considered a fugitive.
